Change your habits and improve your skin.
1) Face wipes clean the face.
Your favorite actress will tell you that, but it's not true. Those wipes can only be used to remove makeup but should not replace two-step cleansing and should NEVER become your daily skin care routine. I have used such wipes only twice in my life, on a trip to the forest and desert when I had no access to water. How does “cleaning” the face with these wipes look like? We rub, pull and stretch our skin and then we talk about allergy or sensitivity. When our skin is still dirty there’s no point of applying any cosmetics. Our face is dirty, pores are clogged and nothing will be absorbed. Double cleanse is a must. You can use two different cosmetics, for example a milk, and then oil and a foaming cleanser with salicylic acid. Each of them should be selected individually. Another thing, thoroughly washed skin does not mean squeaky clean.
2) Getting that squeaky clean feeling after washing your face ensures it is clean.
No! That squeaking sound after cleansing equals dry or dehydrated skin. The cleanser you use may be poorly suited to your skin, too strong, or you may use it too much or too often (some exfoliating cleansers are not intended for everyday use). If the skin feels tight after washing is a sign that she has been deprived of her natural protective barrier, water and oil, which is needed to stay healthy and youthful. Dry skin becomes sensitive, itching, ages faster, wrinkles and fine lines become more visible. When it is too dry it starts stimulating the oil glands to produce excess oil, that will lead to clogged pores, blackheads and acne breakouts. I recommend cleansing with natural oil cleanser which give you a deep cleanse, dissolving excess oil and dirt, while helping to maintain your skins natural protective barrier.
3) Oils will clog pores and cause breakouts, they should not be used on oily skin.
Not true. It is a build-up of dirt and bacteria that will clog pores and create blackheads. As oil dissolves oil, cleansing oils remove excess sebum, dirt, makeup, and the remains of moisturizers with a UV filter. Skin washed with oil is not only clean, refreshed, but also moisturized and nourished. Natural face oils do not destroy the natural protective barrier of the skin and its hydro-lipid layer and thus do not feel tight. However, not all oils are created equal and the most beneficial for cleansing are: Soybean Oil, Sesame Oil, and Peanut Oil.
4) The harder/more often you scrub/exfoliate, the better.
No, please don’t do that. Be gentle to your skin, beauty is NOT pain. Scrubbing too hard or too often will cause damage to your skin and cause premature aging. Pisalam juz o tym w drugim punkcie. Exfoliate only two times per week, you may substitute scrubs with AHA or enzyme peel.
5) The order of skincare product application does not matter.
Not true. It matters a lot. If you want to see results on your skin they should be applied according to "heaviness”. Start with the more fluid, more watery and finish with fatty ones. First goes tonic, then serum, eye cream, moisturizer, oil, and finally a sunscreen. By following this rule you will allow the ingredients of individual products to penetrate deep into the skin and work effectively.
6) It is necessary to take care of the skin around the eyes only after the age of 35.
Lie.
We should start taking care of the skin around the eyes at the age of 20, even if we do not see any signs of aging yet. The skin in this area is much thinner and more delicate. It is also more prone to dryness and irritation, e.g. when removing makeup.
7) Anti-aging is not for me, yet.
Not true.
It’s all about prevention. Look for anti-aging products with powerful antioxidants, Vitamins A, C, E, essential fatty acids, natural retinoids, and natural AHAs to promote rapid cellular turnover and regeneration for brighter, healthy skin.
8) If I drink more water, my skin will be more hydrated.
Opinions are divided here. Everywhere we hear about the importance of drinking water for overall health, however, there is a lack of research proving that water consumption affects skin hydration. I believe that if your body is healthy, your skin will be healthy at the same time. If there's something wrong with your body, your skin will show, it's one of the few excretory organs we have to get rid off toxins. When you drink water, it doesn't go to the skin right away — it hydrates cells once absorbed into the bloodstream and filtered by the kidneys. So at the cellular level, drinking water is great as it flushes the system and hydrates our bodies overall. As for the skin, it can hydrate itself. For this, it needs the correct pH level to maintain its protective hydro-lipid layer. So I emphasize once again how important it is to choose the right cosmetics for everyday care.
9) My sensitive skin is due to genetics.
If you haven't been diagnosed with atopic dermatitis or rosacea, then it may not be genetics at all.
In the point 2 I mentioned the wrong selection of cosmetics, too frequent exfoliation and aggressive treatment of the skin.
10) You should not sleep with your makeup on.
This one is not a myth, it's true! Wearing makeup to bed will cause not only blocked pores, but it can trap environmental pollutants and free-radicals that can damage skin cells, and cause premature aging. Your skin as entire body needs regeneration and this happens during night. I made the same mistake, in the early 20's. I went to sleep with my makeup on and the next day I tried to compensate for my mistake by washing too thoroughly and exfoliating. Not washing your face before going to bed can age you 10 years. Who wants that?
