Seasons are changing so does your skin and your daily skincare routine requires adjustment. Here are some suggestions how to ease winter dryness, irritation and redness.
1) PREPARE YOUR HOME
Get humidifier. Yes, you need it. Get two at least, one for your bedroom and second to your office. During the colder seasons, humidity levels in your home tend to drop. When we use a heater at home, it works on the skin like a vacuum cleaner. It literally sucks all the moisture out of it. Have you noticed that your houseplants need more watering? The skin is no different. The drier the air at home, the drier your skin. Humidifier changes the way your skin respond to the environment helps to keep your skin supple, hydrated. When there’s no humity in the air your skin protective barrier will break up then your skin will become inflamed, irritated.
2) DO NOT SCRUB
Take a break of products with grit because it would make dryness and irritation worse. You don’t need to exfoliate to clean your skin. Switch scrubs to enzymes. Once a week is enough.
3) SHORT WARM SHOWERS
Warm, not hot. Hot water strips your skin of its natural oils. That makes it more likely to be dry, tight, or cracked. When you bathe, go for short and warm instead of long and hot. Fifteen minutes is plenty. Apply oils on entire body when skin is still damp. (See pt 5)
4) DROP THE SERUM
Serums are essential for your skin (no matter the season), but they become slightly more important as the season changes. They are designed to sink into the skin quickly, delivering an intensive dose of ingredients that can address common skin issues. Use a few drops on damp skin before moisturizer.
5) SEAL THE MOISTURE
Use heavier creams or oils. Their task is to create a shield so that water from the skin does not evaporate. The best way to keep your skin from drying out is to trap water inside it when it’s wet. The use of tonics and mist is important but not enough, oil must be applied on top of water. However, it is a mistake to spray the mist and go outside when it is freezing, then frostbite may occur. Yes, I've seen that. Rejuvenating Face Oil
6) DON'T EXPOSE
Cover up when it’s cold outside to prevent windburn and dryness. Wrap your face with a soft scarf, cover your hands with gloves. Continue with your your daily sunscreen routine year-round to block damaging rays. Yes, even on cloudy days.
7) BALM YOUR LIPS
Your lips are one of the most delicate areas of your skin. In fall/winter time they easily are getting chapped, flaky, and dry. They don’t have oil glands so they can’t produce their own moisture. Make sure you’re bringing a lip balm with you everywhere. I have them in my car, in my purse, in drawer in my office...

Wishing you Happy Holidays and healthy New Year!
